Highlights of my trip

I have just realised that I had so much fun travelling that I never had the chance to finish my blog! So I will now write a bunch of highlights to show what I enjoyed, what I learnt and places I will never forget.

• If you are travelling alone give online travel buddy sites a try, it’ll lessen the pressure and worries of making friends and In a way feels like you have already made a friend.

• I loved the fact that the nicest of hotels didn’t cost a packet, some 5 stars are only £15 a night, treat yourself every now and then.

• With £1000 spending money for the month you will live like royalty.

• Stay at Chern hostel in Bangkok, modern, only 400 baht a night, free wifi, clean lovely rooms, and away from the hustle and bustle but still only a 5 minute tuk tuk ride from Koh San road.

• Stay at Lotus Paradise resort in Koh Tao as there are pool parties every night there !

• The beach all the way down in Koh Tap where we stayed is a romantic spot at night 😉

• Bans diving resort is amazing If you have alot of money, If not there restaurant is great and they also have a bar called fish bowl which is AMAZING, fire dancers all night, balloons, beach front bar, best time ever !

Day 1 in Thailand – Phuket

The world falls into two types of people, you’re either a waiter or a creator.

I had arrived at my hotel at about 6 am, I was literally dying, too many hours spent cramped in a seat next to a stranger who keeps trying to steal your elbow rest.  As soon as you are out of the airport there will be people trying to give you a lift, even though I was tired there was no way I’d let anyone charge me more.  The guy decided to let me know price the price from the airport to Patong beach would be 1700 baht! No way, there was a sign in front of me saying 180 for the same place, but all you needed was an extra person… I don’t know what difference that makes to their life but anyway I was like 500? Only managed to get it down to 1000, but whatever.

SO, basically when I am home back in London I usually love going out with all my friends, to bars, clubs, house parties, anything involving alcohol.  Sometimes a bit too much?  I’ve ended up in hospital this time last year, I dont remember how, but I do remember waking up and the party was over, I wasn’t impressed.  Another time at Uni I got picked up by police after I’d stumbled down the road and passed out, head slumped in my bag.  At the station i’d desperately tried ringing my friends off my camera… To no avail.  ANYWAY, back to Thailand… Sorry.

First night nerves, I hate approaching people but how else do I make friends?  I have really bad anxiety which my mum passes off as just stupidity and to get over it.  So I think oh ill just get a pizza, head home, try tomorrow.  The pizza man says to walk around while he prepares it, so I walked down found a quiet bar, had one drink which turned into about ten.  Pizza man walks over to me about 45 mins too late, at this point I’m not even hungry, and way too drunk playing Jenga, Jackpot and connect 4 with the Thai barmaid, a Japanese traveller and now an Australian.  So if you have worries about how to make friends travelling, just remember its so easy to at a bar, alcohol makes people merry and you calmer, sometimes cooler Haha.

I spent so much money because at this point I didn’t know any conversions yet to pounds, idiot!  But we were joined by another Thai girl and we left for a club, partied there for hours! And went to some pool hall till 10am! I walked on not knowing any pool and left a champion!

Things I realised on my first night:

-The amount of prostitutes that are EVERYWHERE

-The cute girl selling flowers on the street is not cute, she swears at you if you don’t buy something!

– You may get charged if you ask to use a bars toilet, even though their tap doesn’t work, and you have to pour water in the system yourself, what am I a plumber? Shouldn’t you be paying me? Give me my money back.

– A fan in a hot club will save your life.

– The electricity lines fizz for some reason, stand well back!

– crossing the road is a simple game of chance, well, not simple, it took me about ten minutes to cross the first time.

– FINAL THING before I write a novel… DON’T drink water or have drinks from anywhere with ice cubes in ! You will end up in bed like me the whole of the next day or maybe longer! Crying for your parents who can no longer hear you over countless countries.  Apart from that final surprise after having a stupid amount of ice packed drinks, (which by the way seemed to be only consumed by me.). Yeah apart from that, couldn’t ask for a better first night, what was I even worrying about?

Thailand – solo travel

Happiness is not a state to arrive at, but a manner of travelling

It was finally here, after months of preparation,   and last minute shopping for anything I could possibly need for my adventure away, the day was finally here!  It seemed to all go so quickly and it wasn’t until I actually got to the baggage security to wave off my parents that I actually realised what the hell I was doing.  My parents gave me the be safe speeches and my mum passed me some money she secretly changed for me accompanied by a note to read on the plane.  I don’t know why but I suddenly just broke into tears, which is weird because I’ve been away from home loads of times.  Anyway, I waited around for my flight, took pictures of people who’d fallen asleep and finally got onto the plane.

Of course I had to be next to the person with a MAJOR flem problem, snorting up their flem every couple of minutes for the next 9 HOUR journey. It was awful, I wanted to cry.  Turbulence is the worst when you’re travelling alone, no one to hold your hand!  I hate planes, simply for the reason that I believe there’s gravity for a reason and I get scared to defy that ! It’s always mid flight when it hits me, that we are actually all just floating around in a tin in the sky, scary!

Beijing airport is not all its cracked up to be, I mean I saw it won an award for its airport and everything, but really? Okay the fountain is cool, but I didn’t find it cool when security took my THREE lighters, it’s hard enough me trying to find one lighter, but I had three? And now they are snatched from my possession, what do you really think I’m going to do? Anyway, airports massive ill give you that, chairs were a nice place to sleep whilst I waited for the connecting flight. There’s not much else… I left my iPhone on the bathroom sink, and because the airport is so big that you don’t even realise the amount of people, no one even noticed, and ten minutes later i ran back and yay phone was still there!

Okay so once I landed in Phuket, slowly drifted through customs, I took my bag and proceeded to the loos, I wish I didn’t ! They were awful, full to the brim with sanitary towels, brown coloured water and you get where that’s heading… Eurgh.

Took a taxi to my hotel and the driver was mad! I had to get him to stop so I could be sick on the side of the road, he didn’t mind, he was nice enough.

Bit of a stressful journey but I made it! Let the adventure begin !

I like this quote because everyone really should enjoy their own company, after a while you won’t feel so alone, and maybe even attract other people towards you with your confidence to be alone.
